Recent Renovation Work at St Johns

The above photographs cover the recent renovation work carried out in the graveyard and include the newly restored Warwick Deeping memorial at the north end of the graveyard- He was a Southend novelist at the beginning of the 20th Century. About 70 gravestones are being renovated - amongst them, that of the 1st Southend Mayor Thomas Dowsett. The graveyard, when fully restored, is going to be used by local schools for Educational research- as a lot of the history of the Town is contained within St John's Churchyard. The renovation of the graveyard has been paid for by grants obtained by 'Renaissance Southend', which is the regeneration body for the Town.

St John's Garden

We’ve worked hard to create a garden on the South Side of the Church. Patsy Littlejohns has really moved this forward and a lovely area has been created with an outdoor table and seating and a bird table !  It  has been used by some of our Wedding couples for photographs. We shall be using this on Sundays after Church during the Summer.
